05 · Pressure map
What it is
- A thematic map colors nodes or pipes by a metric (pressure, velocity, loss). It highlights critical areas at a glance.
How to view it
- In View, pick the node metric Pressure.
- For pipes, pick Velocity or Headloss.
- The canvas applies colors and shows a legend (bands).
- To show flow direction, enable Flow direction and arrows will render on pipes.
Labels and readability
- In View you can choose what labels show: pressure/elevation for nodes and diameter/velocity/flow/dH for pipes.
- Adjust label size and offsets to keep the map readable.
Quick interpretation
- Cool colors (blue/green): acceptable pressures.
- Warm colors (orange/red): low pressures or high velocities.
- Persistent red zones often mean undersized pipes or missing boost.
Nodes vs pipes
- Nodes: pressure available; below-minimum means deficient service.
- Pipes: velocity and loss; very high velocity raises losses and surge risk.
Practical example
- After “Run Calc,” enable Pressure on nodes. Find red nodes; increase diameter on the feeder pipe or raise reservoir level, then rerun. Watch for colors turning green.
